Josep “Pinyu” Martí (Sitges, 1971) is a versatile drummer and percussionist with extensive experience in live performances and recordings of many styles.
In jazz he has played with musicians such La Vella Dixieland, Scott Hamilton, Jesse Davis, Leroy Jones, Ronald Baker, Charmin Michelle, Kathy Autrey, Dany Doriz, Josep Maria Farràs, Toni Solá, Ivó Oller, Horacio Fumero, Lluc casares, and many others.
He has performed many seasons in musical theatre productions such, Mamma Mia!, Sister Act, The Sound of Music, Hair, The Night of Musicals 2017 (Grec – Barcelona summer festival), Blood Brothers, Moustache the Rhythm Musical.
Also he has performed with world and folk music artists such, Roger Mas, Lídia Pujol, Brossa String Quartet, Miquel Gil, Thomas Lorenzo, Cobla Sant Jordi and many others.
In classical music he has performed with OBC (Barcelona- Catalonia Symphony Orchestra) with Elmer Bernstein, Orquestra del Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona Opera House).
Also he has a long experience in pedagogic performances with “Els Colors del Metall” (Brass Colours) from L’Auditori of Barcelona performing more than 500 concerts around Spain, Portugal and Mexico.
He began studying drums at Modern Music Aula in Barcelona with Quim Solé. He is graduated in classical percussion – the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona, graduated in jazz studies performance major – Berklee College of Music, in Boston. He has studied with drummers and percussionists such as Jamey Haddad, John Ramsay, Skip Hadden, Jon Hazilla, Bob Kaufman, Ian Froman, Eguie Castrillo, Dave Weigert, among others.
At present, he holds the position of principal and percussion teacher at the Music and Dance School of Esparreguera, Barcelona, and percussion and ensemble teacher at the Music School of Valls (tarragona).
